David P Harris IDSA
My
career has spanned over twenty years and two continents. I have consulted for both major
corporations and start-up companies, helping them develop strategic product programs and
implemented new design methodologies like the "Megateam" for Herman Miller, Inc.
The awards I have received also span the globe, from the Design Council in England, to ID
Magazine in America for consumer products and healthcare programs.
With an Honors Degree in Engineering with Social Studies from Sussex University in
England, I then went on to receive a Masters Degree in Industrial Design from the Royal
College of Art in London. Combining the two disciplines was suggested by Misha Black, then
head of industrial design at the RCA. It has been a good foundation for pursuing my
passion for developing consumer driven, industry changing products, such as the Redring
GEC Plastic Electric Kettle and the Midmark Pediatric Crib.
My efforts have been recorded in numerous publications and articles:
- Design Management Institute Journal, Fall 1993
- Materials Management in Healthcare, June 1994
- Product Design and Packaging, Taiwan, June 1994
And, I have been a guest speaker at the Healthcare Conference, Paris, Fall 1995 on
Megateam outsourcing.
I have successfully implemented the Megateam process with a number of international
companies. The latest program, an operating room table for a European company, illustrates
the effectiveness of the approach. It brought three new technologies into a first level
engineering prototype in only nine months.
As I continue to seek opportunities for industry-changing innovation and design
advocacy at a strategic level, please let me know how I can help your company reach it's
goals.
