     The Midmark 500 Pediatric Stretcher

This design brief required us to find a way to improve patient access while maintaining strict safety requirements. We were pleased to meet the engineering criteria without losing the soft look of the product. The aesthetic result also provides higher levels of safety by not presenting any hard corners on the inside or outside of the crib.

The Midmark 411 Universal Power Table

Because Terry Simpkins and I both lived in Aspen Colorado, it was a natural decision for us to collaborate on a highly successful range of medical products. The work spectrum spanned from defining basic engineering approaches and developing working bucks, to illustrating proof of concept engineering and sophisticated styling exercises. One of our first products was a powered examination table which we elected to completely change both in construction and in motive power. By replacing a large number of sheet metal parts with three simple 1/4 inch steel plate forms, we gained a substantial increase in performance while creating a lower net weight. The new rigid structure was then used to locate electric screw jacks which allowed for the development of an electronic remote control with preset memory positions for the chair, similar to those found in contemporary automotive seating

The Midmark 530 Universal Procedure Stretcher

We were able to solve a number of problems with patient transport products through the innovative use of a 4Bar linkage on the side rails. This change allows for the ability to facilitate patient transport by parking the side rails entirely under the mattress, and also provides a smooth and controlled action which inspires confidence in the quality of the product. This feature provided a substantial product advance, along with the innovative use of a single hydraulic lift and gas assisted levers for ease of use in Trendelenberg and fowler configurations.
